The Jharkhand Congress party’s official X account has been withheld by the microblogging site following the dissemination of a “deepfake morphed video” featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The controversial video, which allegedly misrepresented Shah’s statements regarding reservation policies, prompted legal action by the Delhi Police and an investigation into the source of the doctored content.
The Delhi Police, acting on a complaint from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), filed an FIR after the doctored video surfaced, falsely attributing statements to Amit Shah suggesting an intention to abolish all reservations. In reality, Shah’s comments were specific to religious-based reservations in Telangana.
In response to the incident, the Jharkhand BJP also lodged a complaint against individuals allegedly responsible for circulating the manipulated video. Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur has been summoned by the Delhi Police as part of their ongoing investigation into the matter.

Rajesh Thakur, upon receiving the notice, expressed confusion over the summons, questioning the rationale behind targeting him in this investigation. Thakur emphasized the need for police authorities to verify the content on X before taking further action.
Gajendra Kumar Singh, the state coordinator of the social media department for Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, was also summoned by the Delhi Police and is scheduled to appear before them on May 3. Singh highlighted the party’s reliance on legal advice while navigating the situation.

Furthermore, Singh alleged that the withholding of the Jharkhand Congress Twitter account by the microblogging site was an attempt by the Delhi Police to exert pressure on the party. The unfolding developments underscore the complexity of managing digital content and the legal ramifications associated with misinformation during election campaigns.
As investigations continue, both the Jharkhand Congress and the Delhi Police are engaged in addressing the implications of the doctored video, highlighting broader concerns regarding digital accountability and responsible online behaviour in the context of political discourse.
