Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued strict instructions barring Members of Parliament (MPs) from holding protests at any of the gates in Parliament House, following chaotic scenes earlier on Thursday between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Opposition MPs. The confrontation unfolded at the Makar Dwar gate, escalating tensions within the political landscape.
Earlier in the day, MPs from the NDA and the Opposition bloc INDIA held separate protest marches over remarks concerning BR Ambedkar. The situation escalated dramatically when members from both sides came face to face outside Parliament House, resulting in jostling and a scuffle. BJP MP Pratap Sarangi sustained a forehead injury during the altercation and was subsequently taken to the hospital.
BJP MPs alleged that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi pushed Mr. Sarangi, causing his injury. The incident has further intensified the discord between the two blocs.

Rahul Gandhi Denies Allegations
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, denied the allegations, asserting that he was “pushed and threatened” by BJP members while attempting to enter Parliament House. “It is our right to enter Parliament,” he told reporters, accusing the ruling party of trying to suppress dissent.
In response to the disruption, Speaker Om Birla reiterated that protests and blockades at Parliament gates would not be tolerated. MPs from both sides have been instructed to refrain from obstructing entry points, aiming to restore decorum in the legislative premises.
Broader Implications
The altercation comes amid heated debates in Parliament, with the Opposition demanding an apology from Home Minister Amit Shah for his controversial remarks about BR Ambedkar. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned following noisy protests from the Opposition.

The incident has sparked a war of words between the two factions. BJP leaders have visited the hospital to check on the injured MPs, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has framed the tussle as a distraction by the BJP to shift focus from the Ambedkar issue.
Calls for Resolution
As tensions continue to rise, the need for constructive dialogue and adherence to parliamentary decorum remains a pressing issue. The Speaker’s firm stance on maintaining order highlights the growing challenges in balancing protest rights with legislative responsibilities.
