Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena visited several areas in the capital today, drawing attention to what he described as “hellish living conditions” in parts of the city. During his visit to Rangpuri Pahari in South Delhi and Kapashera in Southwest Delhi, Saxena shared visuals of open drains and complained of overflowing sewers, stressing that the stinking water in the alleys and streets was not rainwater, but sewage.
The Lieutenant Governor also noted that residents in these areas expressed concerns about the poor quality of essential services, including erratic electricity and water supply. Many residents claimed to endure daily power cuts lasting up to 8-10 hours and complained about unusually high electricity bills, despite the Delhi government’s claims of providing free electricity.
Saxena, accompanied by South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and several officials, took to social media to highlight the dire state of affairs. He shared details of the complaints from locals, including irregular water supply and inadequate garbage disposal, and urged AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi to visit these areas to take corrective action.
“The women narrating their problems are from Delhi, not from any other state,” Saxena remarked in a post on X. “I have assured that a cleanliness drive will begin tomorrow, and I will personally monitor it to ensure that basic services are provided to the residents.”

Saxena also appealed to Chief Minister Kejriwal and his ministers to visit these areas and address the ongoing issues. He urged them to take immediate steps to improve the conditions, stating, “Let’s come together and make Delhi great again.”
This criticism from the Lieutenant Governor comes at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is actively campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections, highlighting its achievements over the past 10 years. AAP has emphasized the revamping of government schools and neighborhood clinics, while the opposition BJP has raised concerns over water and sanitation issues.
The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks also reflect the ongoing tensions between his office and the Delhi government. Saxena has previously criticized AAP over various governance issues, while the party has accused the central appointee of obstructing its efforts. In response to Saxena’s post, Kejriwal thanked the Lieutenant Governor and assured the public that the concerns raised would be addressed. He confirmed that the areas visited by Saxena would be cleaned, and the government would work to fix the problems identified by him.
