Kerala Man Dead In Russia: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Tuesday the death of Binil TB, a Kerala native employed by the Russian Military Support Service in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine. The MEA has reiterated its demand for the early repatriation of remaining Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army.
Binil, a 32-year-old electrician from Thrissur, reportedly lost his life in a war zone under Russian control. His cousin-in-law, Jain TK, who accompanied him to Russia, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment in a Moscow hospital. Both men, ITI mechanical diploma holders, had traveled to Russia on April 4, intending to work as electricians and plumbers. However, upon arrival, their passports were confiscated, and they were deployed to the frontlines.
“We have learned of the unfortunate death of an Indian national from Kerala who had apparently been recruited to serve in the Russian Army,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

“Another Indian national has been injured and is receiving medical care. Our deepest condolences go out to the bereaved family,” Jaiswal added.
MEA’s Diplomatic Push for Repatriation
The MEA has engaged Russian authorities in Moscow and the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, demanding the early discharge and return of Indian nationals still serving in the Russian forces.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow is assisting the affected families and facilitating the repatriation of Binil’s remains.
“We are working with the Russian authorities for the transportation of the mortal remains and have also sought the early repatriation of the injured person,” Jaiswal said.
Rising Concerns Over Indian Nationals in Russian Service
Reports indicate that over eight Indian nationals have died while serving in the Russian military, with 63 others currently seeking discharge. These individuals were reportedly recruited for support roles but found themselves deployed in the conflict zone.

In August 2024, the MEA disclosed these deaths and pledged to ensure the safety of its citizens. However, details about the recruitment process remain unclear.
Indian Embassy’s Support Efforts
The Indian Embassy in Moscow is collaborating with local authorities to provide legal, logistical, and consular assistance. Efforts are ongoing to bring back affected individuals and prevent further cases of Indian nationals being deployed in conflict zones.
The MEA has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Indian citizens abroad, ensuring their safety, and facilitating their return home.
