Kash Patel is of Gujarati descent, with family ties to East Africa. His father fled Uganda in the 1970s during the rule of Idi Amin and later moved to the United States.
Born and raised in Garden City, New York, Patel’s experiences as a first-generation American shaped his dedication to public service and national security.
Patel studied at the University of Richmond before earning a law degree from New York City, along with a Certificate in International Law from University College London’s Faculty of Laws.

Patel held the influential role of Chief of Staff to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller, coordinating multiple defense priorities.
As the Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, he worked to eliminate ISIS and al-Qaeda leaders, as well as secure the safe return of American hostages.
Patel served as National Security Advisor and Senior Counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he was instrumental in investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Beginning as a public defender, Patel took on complex cases involving murder, drug trafficking, and financial crimes in both state and federal courts.
Patel entered the Trump administration as a 40-year-old lawyer in 2019, quickly rising through the ranks with responsibilities in intelligence and national security.
According to reports, Trump had intended to appoint Patel as the deputy director of the CIA in his administration’s final weeks, though he encountered resistance.

At a Republican gala, Trump signalled continued confidence in Patel, telling him to “Get ready, Kash,” which has left some speculating about Patel’s potential future in government.
