Israel-Iran Conflict | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday confirmed he had a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which he conveyed India’s concerns over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The conversation came hours after Israel launched a major offensive targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile sites, and top military commanders.
“I shared India’s concerns and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” PM Modi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), following his call with Netanyahu.

India, which had earlier stated it was “deeply concerned” about the unfolding situation, continues to monitor the developments closely. The Ministry of External Affairs has urged both Israel and Iran to avoid taking steps that could escalate tensions further in an already volatile region.
Netanyahu Dials Global Leaders Amid Escalation with Iran
The Israeli offensive, dubbed “Operation Rising Lion”, marked the most significant military action against Iran since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s. Multiple sites across Iran were struck, including the country’s main nuclear enrichment facility and missile manufacturing centers.

According to Iran’s state-affiliated Nournews, at least 78 people were killed in Tehran as a result of the strikes. In a public statement, Israeli PM Netanyahu described the campaign as a historic action: “Israeli forces had struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program,” he declared, affirming that the operation would continue to prevent Tehran from building an atomic weapon.
Netanyahu also reached out to other world leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron, as part of Israel’s diplomatic efforts to gather international support. Though he is yet to speak directly with U.S. President Donald Trump, the American leader has already issued a stern warning to Iran, saying, “The US makes the most lethal weapons in the world, and several of them are with Israel.”
India’s involvement remains firmly rooted in diplomacy, with PM Modi underscoring the urgency of restoring regional peace. The country’s measured stance aims to balance strategic ties while pushing for de-escalation in the Middle East.
