As the six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas entered its sixth day, the Palestinian militant group announced the names of four Israeli female hostages set to be released on Saturday. In exchange, Palestinian prisoners will also be released as part of the swap deal, which has become a key aspect of the truce agreement.
Hostage Swap Details
Hamas stated that the four Israeli women — Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag — would be freed on Saturday. The exchange of prisoners is expected to begin on Saturday afternoon, according to Reuters.
This follows the initial swap that took place last Saturday, which saw three Israeli women freed alongside 90 Palestinian prisoners. Under the current arrangement, Israel has pledged to release 50 Palestinian prisoners for every Israeli female hostage freed. Officials estimate that 200 Palestinian prisoners will be exchanged for the four hostages announced by Hamas.

Progress and Future Negotiations
The current truce, brokered by Qatar and Egypt with US support, marks the first prolonged pause in hostilities since a brief truce in November 2023. As part of the agreement, Hamas has committed to releasing 33 hostages during this phase in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
The conflict, now in its 15th month, has left Gaza in ruins and caused catastrophic loss of life. Since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which resulted in 1,200 Israeli deaths and over 250 hostages being taken to Gaza, Israel has conducted heavy bombardments across the territory. According to Gaza health officials, over 47,000 Palestinians have been killed during the conflict.
On Sunday, in addition to the release of three Israeli women, Israeli forces recovered the body of a soldier missing for a decade, further highlighting the long-standing complexities of this conflict.
Remaining Hostages and Negotiations
Despite the recent progress, 94 Israeli and foreign hostages remain in Gaza, according to Israeli reports. The ongoing negotiations will focus on their release and discussions about the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. This ceasefire provides a temporary respite, but the path to a long-term resolution remains fraught with challenges.
