In escalating regional tensions, Israel launched targeted missile strikes on Iranian military bases in Tehran and other cities early on Saturday, following Iran’s October 1 assault that saw over 200 rockets and ballistic missiles launched on Israel. The initial Iranian attack came in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, an ally of Iran.
According to Iran, the latest Israeli strikes caused “limited damage.” Israel, however, asserts that it now enjoys “wider freedom” to operate in the skies over Iran. Following the strikes, Iran, Syria, and Iraq implemented a temporary airspace lockdown, with Iran recently announcing plans to resume civilian flights.
Airspace Lockdowns Across Iran, Syria, and Iraq
As per open-source flight tracker FlightRadar24, no aircraft movements were detected over the airspace of Iran, Syria, or Iraq following the attack.
Syria reported additional Israeli airstrikes originating from the occupied Golan Heights and Lebanon, targeting the capital, Damascus, and prompting activation of its air defense systems.

Iraq, which had not been directly targeted, joined the airspace lockdown, citing concerns for civil aviation safety. Officials clarified that such lockdowns are standard in the wake of aerial conflicts, allowing air defense systems to efficiently identify aircraft and prevent enemy incursions.
Iran Promises “Proportional Reaction” Amid Heightened Hostilities
Iran has condemned the Israeli airstrikes as an “act of aggression” and has signaled its readiness to respond. “There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes,” reported Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, quoting unnamed sources.
Israel, meanwhile, has warned Iran that it “will pay a heavy price” if any retaliatory measures are taken. The United States, while not directly involved, acknowledged being informed in advance of Israel’s intentions.
