New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in separate conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict following Putin’s recent reelection.
According to sources, both Zelenskyy and Putin extended invitations for Prime Minister Modi to visit their respective countries after the Lok Sabha election, highlighting India’s perceived role as a peacemaker.
The discussions between Prime Minister Modi and President Zelenskyy focused on enhancing the partnership between India and Ukraine, emphasizing India’s advocacy for a people-centric approach and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the conflict.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution, while President Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for India’s humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, with both leaders agreeing to maintain communication.
This exchange follows Prime Minister Modi’s earlier conversation with President Putin, where they reiterated their commitment to strengthening the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between India and Russia. Modi congratulated Putin on his reelection and highlighted their shared goals for deepening bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, Putin’s landslide victory in the presidential elections has secured him another term, marking his fourth consecutive term as Russian President. However, the election has drawn criticism from the West for its perceived lack of democracy.
As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine persists, Ukraine has appealed to the US Congress to release a $60 billion aid package, which has been delayed due to political disputes.
US Defence Secretary Lloys J Austin condemned Russia’s actions, estimating significant economic losses and emphasizing the broader implications of Putin’s aggression beyond Ukraine’s borders.
It is worth mentioning, that amid a war between Russia and Ukraine, several youths from India are being lured to join the Army and take to Russia. A lot of scam has also come to the fore in the recent times.
In one such instance, Hemil Ashwinbhai Mangukiya, an Indian youth of Surat in Gujarat, died in the war front amid the ongoing Russia Ukraine war.
It is believed that he was employed with the Russian Army. However, unconfirmed sources said he was tricked into joining Wagner’s Army. Prior to his untimely demise, he had a poignant two-hour conversation with his family.
