Cricket team of India have achieved a historic milestone by securing a 280-run victory against Bangladesh in the first Test of their two-match series, held in Chennai. This win marks the end of a 92-year wait, elevating India’s total number of Test wins to 179, surpassing the number of losses, which stands at 178. This achievement is significant, as it is the first time in the nation’s Test cricket history that victories outnumber defeats.
India’s journey in Test cricket began in 1932, when the team, led by CK Naidu, faced a loss of 158 runs in their inaugural match. Since that time, they struggled to surpass the number of losses with their wins, until now. The triumph against Bangladesh signifies a remarkable turnaround for the team.
The match itself showcased a stellar performance from veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who delivered a memorable all-round display. Ashwin’s six-wicket haul played a crucial role in India’s commanding victory, as the hosts bowled out Bangladesh for 234 runs in their second innings. This performance secured India a 1-0 lead in the series.
