New Delhi: Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Pashupati Kumar Paras on Tuesday tendered his resignation after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) entered a seat-sharing deal with his nephew Chirag Paswan for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Notably, Paras is a leader of the other faction of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
After his resignation, NDTV quoted Paras as saying, “The NDA alliance has been announced. I am grateful to the Prime Minister. My party and I faced injustice. So, I am resigning as minister.”
The resignation comes amidst political manoeuvring within the Lok Janshakti Party, with Chirag Paswan’s faction aligning with the BJP while Pashupati Kumar Paras leads a separate faction.
According to political observers, Paras’s decision to step down adds a new layer of complexity to the political landscape ahead of the Lok Sabha election. It underscores the internal rift within the Lok Janshakti Party and the broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The timing of the resignation, just after the BJP’s seat-sharing agreement with Chirag Paswan, suggests potential discord within the alliance, say experts. It remains to be seen how this development will impact the dynamics of the upcoming polls.
Efforts to reach out to Paras for further comments on his resignation were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
This move by Pashupati Kumar Paras signals a significant shift in the political equation, potentially reshaping alliances and strategies leading up to the elections.
