New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Japan will invest $42 billion in India over the next five years with an aim to boost bilateral trade. Japan will raise its investment target in India to an ambitious 5 trillion yen or Rs 3.2 lakh crore ($42 billion) over the next five years,” announced PM Modi. Modi’s statement came after bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Delhi.

PM Modi, at a joint briefing, said deepening India-Japan ties will not only benefit the two countries but will also help in encouraging peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
India and Japan signed six agreements following talks between PM Modi and PM Fumio Kishida. The two countries also announced clean energy partnership following talks between both the prime ministers. “India and Japan understand the importance of a secure, trusted, predictable and stable energy supply,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
Referring to Russian attacks on Ukraine, Japanese PM Kishida said, “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a very serious incident which has shaken the roots of international rules and world order,” the Japanese PM said, adding, “Unilateral attempts to change the status quo using force should not be allowed.”
