New Delhi: The Indian government has announced a day of state mourning in the country on September 11 “as a mark of respect” after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen passed away on Thursday. She was 96.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland passed away on 8th September 2022. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day State Mourning on September 11th throughout India.”
It added, “On the day of Mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day. A day of state mourning will be observed in India on September 11 “as a mark of respect” for the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced today. She died yesterday at the age of 96.”
Britain’s longest-reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday. She is survived by son Prince Charles, grandsons William and Harry besides other family members. When the Queen breathed her last, her family was present at Balmoral retreat, a place in the Scottish Highlands.
In June this year, the monarch family had celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to mark 70 years of service to the nation. The Queen’s eldest son, Charles, 73, has reportedly succeeded as the king.
