New Delhi: Celebrated as a precursor to the International Yoga Day, the Ayush ministry on Thursday held a ‘Yoga Utsav’ at the Red Fort premises in New Delhi.
The chief guest at the event, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, said, “We pray for the wellbeing of the entire world. Yoga is our ancestral way of living and one should practice yoga in order to have a healthy body and mind. Today (Thursday) we are celebrating World Health Day and as we are observing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav this year so after 75 days from today, we will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21. I hope that if we adopt our ancient lifestyle, then we along with our minds, will also become healthy.”

Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, who took part in the Yoga Utsav, in one of his tweets called everyone to be a part of the movement and said, “The gifts of AYUSH have served humanity since ancient times. Affordable, efficient, and reaching the grassroots, India’s traditional systems of medicine are providing wellness and health benefits to millions, all over the world.”

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said, “Yoga is beneficial for everyone, it’s important to practice it every day. Not just India, but other countries including Christain, Islamic have understood its significance Islamic and are celebrating it today.”

Earlier, the Ayush ministry had said ambassadors of various countries stationed in Delhi will also attend the event. Speaking on the occasion on Thursday, Vietnam Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau said, “One should practice Yoga every day, and I appreciate how the Government of India has implemented the idea of Yoga in the country.”
