Hyderabad Food Poisoning: In a tragic incident in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills area, a 33-year-old woman died and 20 others were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after consuming momo from a street vendor. The deceased, identified as Reshma Begum, had eaten the popular street food at various locations, according to police.

Ram Babu, Sub-Inspector of the Banjara Hills Police Station, confirmed that Begum and others who consumed the momo experienced severe food poisoning. “We received a complaint yesterday that Reshma Begum (33) died, and 20 others suffered food poisoning after consuming momos from a single vendor at different locations,” he told a news agency. A case has been registered, and police are investigating the matter.

Unhygienic Food Preparation Conditions

An initial investigation found that the vendor operated without a food safety license, raising serious concerns about hygiene and food safety compliance. Authorities reported that the dough used for the momo was stored uncovered in a broken refrigerator, contributing to the contamination.

Food samples from the vendor have been sent for lab analysis, and the vendor’s owner has been directed to suspend operations immediately. Authorities plan to pursue a criminal case under the Food Safety and Standards Act, highlighting the risks posed by unlicensed and unhygienic street food vendors.

This Hyderabad food poisoning incident has raised awareness about food safety standards, particularly regarding unlicensed street vendors, as officials strive to ensure compliance to prevent such tragedies.
