In a significant blow to the Congress in Himachal Pradesh, State Minister Vikramaditya Singh had tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning, citing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s alleged disregard for MLAs and disrespect towards his late father, Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra Singh was a towering figure within the state’s Congress party.
However, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu did not accept his resignation.
Meanwhile, amid an unrest, there were reports that the Chief Minister has tendered his resignation. Following reports suggesting Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s offer to resign, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh clarified, stating, “I haven’t tendered any resignation. In a dramatic turn of events, Navjot Singh Sidhu, a prominent leader of the Congress party in Punjab, launched a scathing attack on the six party lawmakers who cross-voted in the recent Rajya Sabha election.
The cross voting led to an unexpected defeat for the party. Sidhu not only criticised the defectors but also hinted at a potential alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The loss in the Rajya Sabha has plunged the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress had previously secured a victory less than two years ago, into a political crisis.
