In a significant political development, two Independent MLAs, Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon, have officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), boosting its position in Haryana’s assembly. This comes just a day after the BJP’s resounding electoral success in the state. The two leaders were welcomed into the party at Union Minister and Haryana in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence, in the presence of state BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli.

Independent MLAs Strengthen BJP’s Position

Devender Kadyan, a former BJP rebel who won from Ganaur as an Independent, and Rajesh Joon, who defeated his BJP rival in Bahadurgarh, have now aligned with the saffron party. Their decision to join the BJP strengthens the party’s foothold in the 90-member Haryana Assembly, where the BJP has already surpassed the halfway mark with 48 seats. The additional support from these Independent leaders further consolidates the party’s dominance, as it gears up for a historic third consecutive term.

Savitri Jindal Likely to Rejoin BJP

India’s richest woman, Savitri Jindal, who contested as an Independent from Hisar after not receiving a BJP ticket, is also reportedly in talks to rejoin the party. Jindal, a former Congress minister, won the Hisar seat—a constituency she had previously secured in 2005 and 2009.

Jindal had earlier told NDTV that she decided to contest as an Independent following requests from the people of Hisar. “The people of Hisar wanted me to contest at any cost.

Doctor sahab (Dr. Kamal Gupta) is contesting from the BJP, and the Congress has fielded Rara sahab (Ram Niwas Rara), so I had no choice but to contest as an Independent,” she said. Her son, Naveen Jindal, is the BJP MP from Kurukshetra.

BJP’s Historic Win in Haryana

The BJP’s impressive performance in the Haryana elections has paved the way for Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to return for a second term. The party’s victory marks a record third consecutive win in the state, underscoring its growing influence in Haryana’s political landscape.

For the BJP, the support from Independent MLAs like Kadyan and Joon, along with a possible alliance with Savitri Jindal, solidifies its grip on power. Badoli, the state BJP chief, has confirmed ongoing discussions with Ms. Jindal regarding her rejoining the party, further boosting the party’s strength in the assembly.

Congress Challenges Election Results

Meanwhile, the Congress, which came second in the elections, has raised concerns over the election process, alleging irregularities in the vote counting. The opposition party has refused to accept the results, signaling potential challenges ahead for the BJP’s return to power.
