Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced Rs 4 lakh each from the CM Relief Fund to the next of kin of each worker who died in the wall collapse incident.
Ahmedabad: At least 12 persons, including three children, were killed after the wall of a salt processing plant collapsed in Halvad town in Gujarat’s Morbi district Wednesday.
The incident took place at Sagar Salt factory situated inside the Halvad industrial area, said state Labour and Employment Minister and local MLA Brijesh Merja. “Efforts to rescue others who might have been trapped under the debris are still on,” he added. The injured have been rushed to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment, said the police.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and said, “The tragedy in Morbi caused by a wall collapse is heart-rending. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Local authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced Rs 4 lakh each from the CM Relief Fund to the next of kin of each worker who died in the wall collapse incident. He has also given instructions to the Morbi District Collector and system operators for immediate rescue and relief operations.
In the tweet, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragedy in Morbi. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi”
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, “Pained by the loss of lives in a wall collapse incident at a factory in Morbi, Gujarat. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Ashok Gehlot said, “Saddened to know many people have lost lives when a wall collapsed in a salt factory in Gujarat’s Morbi. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May they remain strong to bear this loss. Prayers for speedy recovery of those injured.”
Earlier in the day, the Morbi SP had said, “12 people died, one was injured in the incident. FSL and police teams are at the site. We are taking statements from the family members of the victims. There was no delay in response to the incident, the rescue operation took about an hour and a half.”
