Congress party had on Sunday sacked Michael Lobo as the Leader of Opposition of Goa assembly. His dismissal came after reports of its MLAs have been switching the side from Congress to ruling BJP.
Goa: Amid fear of poaching by the ruling BJP, five Congress legislatures of Goa Assembly have flied to Chennai. The party has reportedly decided the move after surfacing internal rift ahead of Presidential elections which is scheduled on July 18. The party has feared that some of its MLAs may vote in favour of NDA candidate which will cause a major embarrassment.
As per the report, five legislatures Yuri Alemo, Rudolf Fernandes, Sankalp Amonkar, Alton Dcosta and Carlos Alvares are in Chennai. MLa Sankalp Amonkar is also the deputy leader of Congress’s Legislative Party.

In a press conference, Congress leaders said that few of its party leaders were hatching conspiracy with BJP leaders to weaken the party. The party alleged that defection is being engineered by its legislatures.

Congress Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao had said that the ruling party has been trying to split 2/3rd legislatures of the party to avoid anti-defection. Many of its leaders have been offered huge amounts of money. I’m shocked at the amount offered. But our 6 MLAs stood firm, I’m proud of them.”
He had said that his leaders with BJP were hatching conspiracy to damage the party. The conspiracy was led by two Congress legislatures LoP Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat,” added Dinesh Gundu Rao.
He had added that the two leaders were working in coordination with the ruling party. Kamat did it to safeguard his own skin because so many cases are against him and the other MLA – Michael Lobo – for the sake of power and position.
