
New Delhi: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President of India. The announcement to this effect was made by BJP national president JP Nadda on Saturday. Nadda, while addressing a press conference, said that after several rounds of discussion, consultations and communications, we have decided to announce kisan putra (farmer’s son) Jagdeep Dhankhar as the BJP and NDA’s candidate for Vice President. Nadda said that Dhankar has established himself as a “people’s Governor”.
Earlier, a meeting of BJP parliamentary board was taken place at party headquarters where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several top leaders like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took part.
Taking Twitter handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Kisan Putra Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji is known for his humility. He brings with him an illustrious legal, legislative and gubernatorial career. He has always worked for the well-being of farmers, youth, women and the marginalised. Glad that he will be our VP candidate.”
Modi, in another tweet, said, “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has excellent knowledge of our Constitution. He is also well-versed with legislative affairs. I am sure that he will be an outstanding Chair in the Rajya Sabha & guide the proceedings of the House with the aim of furthering national progress.”
Replying to Narendra Modi’s tweet, the Vice President candidate said, “Thank you @narendramodi ji for nominating me as the Vice President candidate for the vice presidential election 2022.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his wishes to the NDA’s Vice President pick. Shah tweeted, “I thank PM @narendramodi ji and @JPNadda ji for making Shri @jdhankhar1 ji as NDA’s candidate for the post of Vice President. The manner in which Dhankar ji, the farmer son of Virbhoomi Rajasthan, has reached here today after facing many economic and social challenges, it is inspiring for all.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated Dhankhar for his candidature. He tweeted, “Congratulations to Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar on being announced as the NDA’s candidate for the Vice President of India. He is a farmer’s son who has a deep understanding of Law and the Constitution. He has spent years in public service. India will greatly benefit from his experience.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma also congratulated Dhankar. Sharma tweeted, “Congratulations Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar ji for your nomination as NDA’s candidate for the post of Vice-President of India. My best wishes to you on behalf of people of Assam.”
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai tweeted, “Congratulations to Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji for being nominated as NDA’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election. It will be a matter of supreme pride for the nation as a whole if a son of the soil embellishes this honourable position.”
