The Telangana government ensured to give out a clear message to the people across all religions and communities that intolerance towards any other religion will not be taken lightly.
New Delhi: Call it proper balance or shrewd politics but the country, especially the BJP-ruled Centre, should learn from the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana government and the Hyderabad Police how to handle a sensitive issue. The Hyderabad Police’s move to not only arrest BJP MLA T Raja Singh but also self-proclaimed social activist Syed Abdahu Kashaf shows that the law is same for everybody.
BJP, which has been slamming opposition parties for their appeasement politics, is ironically turning a blind eye to several issues when it comes to Muslims — the release of the 11 convicts of the Bilkis Bano case being a clear indication of the same. While the BJP has taken action on its leaders who spoke ill about Prophet Muhammad, its silence on the Bilkis Bano case is a classic example of hypocrisy.
Whereas, the Telangana government ensured to give out a clear message to the people across all religions and communities that intolerance towards any other religion will not be taken lightly. Neither was it taken lightly in Singh’s case, who was arrested twice in a couple of days for his audacious comments, nor was Kashaf sparred when he used the ‘sar tan se juda (beheading)’ slogan against Singh.
Nipping the bud or as Shakespeare would put it, “think him as a serpent’s egg…And kill him in the shell”, is the best way to deal radicle ideologies that advocate violence, muscle power or try to belittle others and their religion. This is a poison, a menace that can only garner votes for political parties but will ultimately destroy mankind. The Hyderabad Police’s move is not only commendable, no matter for what reason it was done, but also is it bold, at a time when over saffronisation of society has managed to instigate other communities to come up with repercussions.
