Delhi Voyeurism Case: A 30-year-old man in Delhi’s Shakarpur has been arrested after he allegedly installed spy cameras in a woman’s rented accommodation to secretly film her in the bathroom and bedroom, police said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Karan, is the landlord’s son and lived on another floor in the same building as the woman, who was preparing for her civil services entrance exams.
The woman, who lives alone, had left her keys with Karan while visiting her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. Upon returning, she noticed suspicious activity on her WhatsApp account, prompting her to check devices linked to her account. She found an unknown device connected to her phone and immediately logged out, raising her suspicions.
Senior police officer Apoorva Gupta said, “The woman then began searching her apartment and found a spy camera hidden in the bulb holder of her bathroom. She quickly alerted the police with a PCR call.”
A sub-inspector arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough search of the apartment. Another spy camera was found hidden in the bulb holder of her bedroom. When questioned, the woman revealed that she often left her keys with Karan while traveling, unknowingly giving him access to her private space.

During interrogation, Karan admitted to installing the cameras when the woman left for her hometown three months ago. He purchased the cameras, which are easily available in electronics markets, and strategically placed them in her bedroom and bathroom. The police officer added, “The cameras did not operate online; instead, they stored footage in memory cards. Karan repeatedly asked the woman for her keys under the pretext of electrical repairs, using the opportunity to retrieve the footage and transfer it to his laptop.”
Police seized one spy camera and two laptops containing the recorded videos from Karan. The accused, who is a person with disability, has been booked under voyeurism charges as per the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which could lead to a minimum sentence of one year in jail.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and police are probing further details to determine if any additional illegal activity took place.
