Delhi witnessed a surge in violence on Saturday, with two separate murders sending shockwaves through the national capital. A utensil trader was fatally shot during his morning walk in Shahdara, while a man lost his life in a brawl over cleanliness in Govindpuri.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government criticized the Centre for failing to maintain law and order, blaming Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP for the city’s deteriorating safety.

Shahdara: Trader Shot Dead by Assailants

Sunil Jain, a 52-year-old utensil trader, was attacked by bike-borne assailants in northeast Delhi’s Shahdara near the Yamuna Sports Complex. According to police reports, the attackers fired 7–8 rounds, striking Jain with 3–4 bullets.

Jain was returning home on his scooter when the incident occurred. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

A senior officer stated, “The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits.” Jain’s family claimed he had no known enmity or threats, leaving investigators searching for a motive behind the cold-blooded attack.

Govindpuri: Brawl Over Toilet Cleanliness Turns Fatal

In a separate incident in South Delhi’s Govindpuri, a dispute over cleaning a common toilet escalated into violence, leaving one man dead and two others injured.

Sudheer, his brother Prem, and their friend Sagar were stabbed during the altercation. Sudheer succumbed to stab wounds to his chest, face, and head, while the other two victims are undergoing treatment at AIIMS.

The police have detained five individuals in connection with the incident, including Bhikam Singh, his wife Meena, and their three sons—Sanjay (20), Rahul (18), and a minor. A kitchen knife was reportedly used in the attack.

AAP Slams Centre Over Law and Order

The AAP government wasted no time in criticizing the BJP-led Centre for the rising crime in the city. Delhi Police falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and AAP leaders pointed fingers at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Calling Delhi the “crime capital of India,” AAP Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj lambasted the BJP for failing to ensure safety. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went a step further, stating, “Amit Shah has turned Delhi into a jungle raj. People everywhere are living in fear. The BJP can no longer handle Delhi’s law and order situation. It’s time for the people to unite and raise their voices.”

Rising Concerns Over Safety

The twin murders underscore a growing sense of insecurity among Delhi residents. The Shahdara shooting and Govindpuri stabbing come amid ongoing debates about governance and police accountability in the capital.

Authorities have intensified efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice in both cases. With CCTV footage being analyzed in Shahdara and multiple suspects detained in Govindpuri, police are under pressure to deliver swift results.
