In a welcome move ahead of the festive season, the central government has announced a 3 percent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners.
This increase raises the total DA from 38 percent to 45 percent, offering much-needed financial relief for over a crore employees and pensioners.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held this morning, just weeks before Diwali, providing a timely boost to the income of government workers during the festive period.
Understanding Dearness Allowance
Dearness Allowance is provided to central government employees and pensioners to offset the impact of rising prices and inflation. The allowance is revised twice a year and is calculated based on the latest consumer price index for industrial workers. The DA hike helps employees and pensioners cope with the increased cost of living.

This increase comes as a Diwali gift, aimed at easing the financial burden on employees during the festival, enabling them to manage expenses during this high-spending season.
Other States Follow Suit
This DA hike by the central government follows a similar trend seen in some states that have already raised the dearness allowance for their employees. With rising inflationary pressures, the DA revision is expected to bring significant benefits to government employees across the country.
