Bhubaneswar: With the reports of intensifying deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, three states- Odisa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh may witness moderate to heavy rainfall from Tuesday. As per the Weather Department report, the storm namely cyclone Asani due to deep depression has been moving towards northwest direction. Central as well as state authorities are on alert to ensure safety of people living in the cyclone-prone area.
Since rainfall has been predicted from Tuesday onwards, a yellow warning has been issued in 3 districts in Odisha- Gajpati, Ganjam and Puri. For the next day, heavy rainfall warning has been issued for 5 districts- Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Ganjam.
According to the weather report, the cyclone is at 970 km in southeast direction from Vishakapatnam. The storm is expected to further intensify in the next 24 hours. It further said that the system lay centered at 5.30 am over Southeast Bay of Bengal, about 450 km west-northwest of Car Nicobar, 380 km west of Port Blair, 970 km southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 1030 km south-southeast of Puri in Odisha.
It may be in the form of a cyclonic storm till Sunday evening and later intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and will be continued till May 10 night. It might lose steam in the sea and become another cyclonic storm on May 11 and 12.
