Bhopal: A team of Madhya Pradesh police has on Tuesday arrested controversial godman godman Mahamandleshwar Swami Vairagyanand Giri alias Mirchi Baba from Gwalior on rape charges. According to the reports, an FIR was registered against Mirchi Baba for allegedly raping a woman at mahila police station in Bhopal following which a joint team of Bhopal and Gwalior police arrested him. The baba was accused of raping the woman on the pretext of helping her to conceive.
Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mirchi Baba was in limelight when he had performed a sacred hawan using more than quintal of red chillies for electoral win of Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh in elections. He had announced to take ‘Jal Samadhi’ if Digvijay Singh gets defeated. According to the reports, the victim was married nearly four years ago but was not able to conceive. She came in contact with Mirchi Baba through one of his associates. Baba reportedly called her to meet at his residence. The woman also took permission from her husband and went to meet him. At his residence, Mirch Baba gave her some sacred ash and sabudana which he told to consume. The women fell unconscious and woke up later. She found herself lying in naked situation next to Mirchi Baba.
When the victim warned to raise the issue she was threatened by Mirchi Baba to face dire consequences. The woman also complained of pain in his private parts. The woman returned her home and a week later she narrated the ordeal with relatives. When her husband came to know about the incident, he thrown her out from house. The victim approached mahila police station following which a case was registered under Sections 376, 342 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
Immediately after registering a case, police team of Bhopal reached Gwalior to arrest Mirchi Baba where he was arrested by joint team of Bhopal and Gwalior police.
