A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable has been suspended following allegations of slapping Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The incident occurred as Ranaut was enroute to board a flight to Delhi, having recently been elected from Himachal Pradesh in the Lok Sabha Elections. A police case has also been filed against the constable.
The accused constable, Kulwinder Kaur, stated that an old comment made by Kangana Ranaut triggered her actions. “She gave a statement…that farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement,” Kaur said, referring to the farmers’ protest in 2020 against the three farm laws passed by the Centre.
During the peak of the nationwide agitation, Kangana Ranaut had posted on social media that an elderly woman at a protest site was being paid Rs 100 to sit there. The post, which was widely criticised, was later deleted by the actor.
Footage recorded by onlookers at the airport shows Kangana Ranaut being escorted to the security checkpoint where the confrontation took place. The video captures an argument breaking out but does not show the alleged slap.

Hours after the incident, Kangana Ranaut posted a video message on social media platform X, describing the events at the airport. “The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to cross. She then came and hit me… started throwing expletives. I asked (her) why she hit me. She said, ‘I support farmers’. I am safe… but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?” she said in the video.
Kangana Ranaut faced significant online backlash in February 2021 after responding to a post by singer Rihanna about the farmers’ protest. Rihanna had shared a video of the protestors with the caption, “Why aren’t we talking about this?”. In response, Kangana Ranaut labelled the protestors as “terrorists”.
“No one is talking about it because they are not farmers, they are terrorists who are trying to divide India, so that China can take over our vulnerable broken nation and make it a Chinese colony much like the USA… Sit down you fool, we are not selling our nation like you dummies,” she posted, though the comment was later deleted.
The farmers’ protest that began in 2020/21 gained significant attention both in India and globally. Throughout the agitation, Kangana Ranaut made several controversial posts criticising the protest and questioning its legitimacy, often targeting the protestors.
During her campaign, Kangana Ranaut’s convoy was blocked by agitators in Chandigarh, further demonstrating the tension surrounding her comments on the farmers’ protest.
