Off the southern Cornish coast, a blue lobster that is rarely seen was caught. The unusual crab was found on Sunday by fisherman Chris Puckey in one of his traps close to Polperro.
The electric blue color of these lobsters is said to be caused by a genetic condition that causes a great deal of a particular protein to be produced, according to a BBC article. According to a zoology expert at Oxford University, there is a one in two million probability of successfully catching a blue lobster.
According to the story, Puckey and Polperro fishmonger Jacqueline Spencer decided to give the lobster to a local aquarium so that it could be preserved.
Spencer told the BBC, “We were concerned it may get caught again in another pot or even be eaten by another lobster.” She expressed their hope that the lobster in the aquarium will be able to “live out its life peacefully and be protected from predators.”
Cornwall is a country in southwest Great Britain, situated between the English Channel, the Celtic Sea, and the Tamar River. The Isles of Scilly archipelago is a part of it.
The brief appearance of blue lobster left a lasting impression on those who had the opportunity to witness its rare beauty, serving as a testament to the wonders of the natural world.
