New Delhi: In a major setback to the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra, the opposition BJP has snatched three Rajya Sabha seats. The Congress, however, had bagged three Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan while the BJP had won a single seat.
Rajya Sabha polls held on Friday witnessed allegations and counter allegations of cross voting by ruling and opposition parties. Results of few states were delayed by several hours and were declared after midnight on Friday. Out of total 16 seats BJP alone bagged eight seats. Rajya Sabha elections took place in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka.

In Maharashtra, the ruling coalitions suffered loss as Union minister Piyush Goyal, senior BJP leaders Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik registered their victory. From MVA, Praful Patel from the NCP, Imran Pratapgarhi from the Congress and Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena made their way.
In Rajasthan, Congress candidates Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Surjewala got extra votes and so did BJP’s Ghyanshyam Tiwari while BJP backed independent candiadate abd Zee group chairman Subhash Chanda lost the seat as he failed to get sufficient number of votes.
In Haryana, Corgress’ heavyweight Ajay Maken lost out after reportedly not getting enough votes. Krishan Lal Panwar of BJP and an independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma were declared winner two Rajya Sabha seats from the state. Panwaa was also backed by the ruling BJP.
As far as results of sothern state Karnataka is concerned, BJP won three seats while Congress won one seat. JD (S), however, drew blank this time. BJP candidates who registered their win are Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actor-politician Jaggesh, outgoing MLC Lehar Singh Siroya. From Congress party, former Union minister Jairam Ramesh declared victorious.
