A Bengaluru court recently granted bail to Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha, and brother Anurag, who were arrested in connection with the suicide of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash.
The incident, which occurred on December 9, 2024, shocked the country and sparked discussions around marital discord and the alleged misuse of laws related to domestic harassment.
Suicide Note Key Evidence
Atul Subhash, a software engineer from Maharashtra, was tragically found dead in his apartment in Bengaluru. He is said to have left behind a 24-page suicide note along with a video. In these, he claimed that his wife, Nikita, and her family had been harassing him relentlessly.

The note mentioned experiences of emotional and mental distress, including demands for money and threats that aimed to harm his reputation. Following this heartbreaking event, Atul’s family decided to file a complaint, which resulted in the arrest of Nikita in Gurugram, along with her mother and brother. All three are facing charges of abetting suicide and causing cruelty under the Indian Penal Code.
Forensic Reports Pending
They were taken to Bengaluru and placed in judicial custody. However, the City Civil Court has recently granted them bail. This decision seems to have been influenced by the absence of solid evidence indicating direct involvement in the act, as the investigation is still ongoing. In the meantime, the note and video, which are important for the case, have been sent for forensic analysis to verify their authenticity.
Vinay Singh, the lawyer for Atul’s family, voiced his disappointment with the bail decision and suggested they might appeal. The family is concerned that allowing bail now could interfere with the current investigation. This situation has caught a lot of attention, pointing out that there needs to be a fair way to handle marital conflicts and that the legal system should provide justice for everyone involved.
This sad event has sparked renewed discussions about the stress of marriage expectations, the misuse of dowry regulations, and the mental health struggles men experience in these circumstances. As the case moves forward, it highlights the need to tackle these deep-rooted social issues with care and fairness.
