“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to continue along & off Odisha coast during 10th to 12th May and along & off West Bengal coast during 11th to 12th May evening,” the IMD said.
New Delhi: In its afternoon bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cyclone ‘Asani’ is likely to move nearly northwestwards till the night of May 10 and reach the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the North Andhra Pradesh coast. The weathermen said, thereafter, the cyclone is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours.
Under warnings over the cyclone and its activities, the IMD has issued a date-wise list. On May 10, the IMD predicted, “Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls is likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and rainfall at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Odisha from 10th night.”
For May 11, it said, “Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls is likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over coastal Odisha with heavy rainfall at isolated places over adjoining coastal West Bengal.”
On May 12, the weather department said, there will be light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal.
The IMD also said the wind speeds reaching 100-110 kmph “gusting to 120 kmph is prevailing around the system center over Westcentral Bay of Bengal”. “It would gradually decrease becoming 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal from midnight of 10th May and become 65-75 Kmph gusting to 85 Kmph from evening of 11th May over the same region. Further, it would decrease to 55- 65 Kmph gusting to 75 Kmph over northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal from morning of 12th May,” the IMD said.
“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is prevailing along and off Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to increase to 55-65 Kmph gusting to 75 Kmph from early hours of 11th May for subsequent 24 hours,” the statement added.
“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to continue along & off Odisha coast during 10th to 12th May and along & off West Bengal coast during 11th to 12th May evening,” it further said.
