Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Wednesday confirmed that the accused in the Anna University assault case was a DMK “sympathiser” but not a member of the party.
A young girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the campus of Anna University, one of the premiere institutions in Chennai, which sparked nationwide outrage demanding justice for the victim.
CM MK Stalin, confirmed highlighting, “I assure you that the one arrested in the Chennai student case is not a member of DMK. He is a DMK sympathizer we don’t deny.”
Stalin, also defended the pictures of the accused with DMK party leaders clarifying, “He could have taken pictures with ministers and politicians, nothing wrong in it. But he is not a DMK member but a sympathizer. That is the truth.”
Stalin stated that even if his own party members had committed the crime, he would have taken the same action. Stalin said, “We did not save the accused, immediately arrested and imprisoned him and charged him under the Goondas Act”.

Stalin assured justice would be served to the victim. While, addressing the sensitivity of the issue, Stalin assured, “The sexual assault is a very serious issue. Nobody can deny that. The Tamil Nadu government has no other aim but to ensure that justice is given to the victim in this case.”
Stalin stated that the Tamil Nadu government would ensure speedy trial in a special court so that the perpetrator gets maximum punishment and would issue a chargesheet of the case within 60 days.
Opposition slams Tamil Nadu CM
The AIADMK walked out of the State Assembly and protested outside the House after Stalin’s speech on the Anna University assault case. AIADMK leaders said, “We condemn the CM” and “Don’t tell lies”.

On the other side, BJP Chief K Annamalai staged a penance, where he whipped himself. The BJP’s women wing led a protest march from Madurai to Chennai to demand justice. The Tamil Nadu Police has been urging people not to spread misinformation about the case.
