Akhileshji has chosen to serve as an MLA from Karhal in Mainpuri district. Similarly, Azam will serve as an MLA from the Rampur Assembly seat, said a party leader.
New Delhi: With an intention to serve as MLA, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Jialed SP leader Azam Khan on Tuesday tendered their resignations as LOk Sabha members after securing their victory in recent UP assembly elections. Akhilesh Yadav was MP from Azamgarh parliamentary constituency while Azam Khan was MP from Rampur parliamentary constituency.
“Akhileshji has chosen to serve as an MLA from Karhal in Mainpuri district. Similarly, Azam will serve as an MLA from the Rampur Assembly seat,” informed a party leader. Later, Akhilesh Yadav met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and tendered his resignation.
Akhilesh had won the Karhal seat after securing 1,48,196 votes, while BJP’s SP Singh Baghel came a distant second after getting 80,692 votes. Azam had won the Rampur seat by a margin of 55,141 votes against BJP’s Akash Saxena. During the chief ministership between 2012-17, Yadav was an MLC member.
