HIV Positive Girl Raped At Shelter Home In Maharashtra | In a shocking incident at a shelter home for HIV-infected children in Latur, Maharashtra, a 16-year-old girl has come forward with grave allegations. The minor, who is HIV-positive, reported being sexually assaulted multiple times by an employee of the facility and coerced into undergoing an abortion without her consent. This disturbing case has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety of vulnerable children in care institutions.
Repeated Assaults Over Two Years
The survivor, in her complaint filed at Dhoki police station in Dharashiv district, detailed a harrowing ordeal spanning from July 13, 2023, to July 23, 2025. She alleged that an employee at Sevalay raped her on four separate occasions during this period.
“She was also threatened not to disclose the ordeal to anyone,” a police official stated, highlighting the intimidation used to silence the victim. The minor had been residing at the shelter for two years, a place meant to provide safety and care for HIV-positive children.

Forced Abortion and Institutional Negligence
The abuse came to light when the girl fell ill and was taken to a hospital, where medical tests revealed she was four months pregnant. According to a police officer , the accused employee arranged for a doctor to perform an abortion procedure without the girl’s consent.
In a further attempt to seek help, the survivor wrote a letter to the authorities and placed it in a complaint box at the shelter. However, the institution’s management allegedly tore up the letter, failing to act on her plea and exacerbating her trauma.
This case underscores critical issues regarding oversight and accountability in shelter homes, prompting calls for stricter regulations to protect vulnerable residents.
