The Ratnagiri rape incident has sparked widespread protests in the area, with local residents blocking a road for hours, demanding that swift and decisive action be taken against the perpetrator.
This case adds to the growing concerns over the safety of women in India, especially following the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The incident, which occurred while the doctor was on night duty, has caused national outrage, leading to the arrest of a civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, and the transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by order of the Calcutta High Court.
Maharashtra is also reeling from another recent case in Badlapur, where two minor girls were sexually assaulted at a school. The police have arrested a school attendant in connection with the abuse, further highlighting the urgent need for stronger measures to protect women and children across the country.
