The owner of a Chinese home suffered damages of over 100,000 yuan (Rs 11,67,641) after their cat inadvertently switched on the induction stove in the kitchen.
The property management employees in the cat’s compound called the owner on April 4 to inform her that her house was on fire, according to the South China Morning Post.
Owner Dandan realized the cat started the fire and hurried back to her apartment in the Sichuan province of southwest China. While playing in the kitchen, Jingoudiao, the cat, stepped on the touch panel of the induction cooker by mistake, turning it on.
The whole first floor of her apartment was destroyed by the fire. Firefighters discovered the golden British Shorthair cat, covered in ash but unharmed, hiding in a cabinet upstairs later.

The owner of the cat decided to “compensate” for the incident by renaming the pet’s Douyin account to “Sichuan’s most badass cat” and having it participate in live streaming sessions.
She jokingly claimed that by having her cat participate in live-streaming sessions, she was forcing him to “work to pay off his debt” and had even labeled him as an arsonist.
Dandan signed a letter of apology online a few days later with Jingoudiao’s paw print and her fingerprint. He neglected to turn off the cooker’s electricity, which was her fault, she acknowledged, and she promised to be more careful about fire safety going forward.
Her humorous posts gained a lot of attention and comments from other pet owners after becoming viral. One user commented, ”Thank you. I just switched off my electric cooker. I have a naughty cat who goes everywhere in my flat.”
Another commented, ”My cat just keeps flushing the toilet, leaving me to pay big water bills”. One user wrote,” I just wanted to cook my mum dinner.”
