In a shocking turn of events, Anuj Thapan, one of the arms suppliers implicated in the Salman Khan house firing case, reportedly died by suicide while in police custody.
Thapan, aged 32 and arrested from Punjab on April 26, took this extreme step in a toilet attached to the police lock-up around 11 am, according to sources.
Thapan was among the suspects accused of supplying weapons used in the Salman Khan house firing incident on April 14. Alongside another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander, Thapan allegedly facilitated the acquisition of firearms involved in the incident.
The circumstances leading to Anuj Thapan’s suicide are currently under investigation. Former senior police officer PK Jain, speaking to NDTV, emphasized that any death occurring in police custody is treated as a murder case, warranting a comprehensive inquiry.

“All the policemen in the police station will be questioned by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department),” the NDTV quotes Jain as saying.
Regarding safety protocols within police lock-ups, Jain highlighted the usual precautions taken to prevent such incidents, including regular checks for potential suicide hazards and continuous monitoring of inmates by police personnel.
Meanwhile, the larger context of the Salman Khan house firing case reveals connections to organised crime, particularly through individuals associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Bishnoi, known for a range of criminal activities including kidnapping, murder, and smuggling, has been linked to the accused in this case.
Following developments in the investigation, the Mumbai Crime Branch recently identified Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi as prime suspects in the case, indicating a wider network of criminal involvement surrounding the incident.
It is notable that the security measures of Salman Khan have been heightened since November 2022 due to threats attributed to Lawrence Bishnoi and another gangster, Goldy Brar.
Salman Khan now moves under Y-Plus security, allowing him to carry a personal firearm and travel in an armoured vehicle, reflecting the seriousness of the threats posed by organized crime elements involved in this case.
