23 per cent winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases, 2 winning candidates with cases related to attempt to murder & one winner candidate has declared case related to murder.
New Delhi: 58 winning candidates or 50 per cent of newly elected MLAs of total strength of Punjab Assembly have criminal cases, says Association of Democratic Research (ADR) after analysing self-sworn affidavits of all 117 winning candidates. During Punjab Assembly elections in 2017, 16 winning candidates or just 14 per cent MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.
ADR has further analysed that as many as 27or 23 per cent winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Out of 117 MLAs analysed during Punjab Assembly elections in 2017, 11 MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Two winning candidates with cases related to attempt to murder and one winner candidate has declared case related to murder (Section 302) against himself. It has further revealed that two winning candidates have declared cases of attempt to murder (Section 307). Besides this, three winning candidates with cases related to crimes against women.
It has said that 52 out of 92 winning candidates from AAP, three out of 18 winning candidates from INC, two out of three winning candidates from SAD and one out of of two winning candidates from BJP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
