Massive protests broke out in several parts of Karnataka after a BJP’s youth wing worker was found murdered in Dakshin Kannada district on Tuesday night. Several party workers also resigned from the party by saying that the party is unable to protect its youths.
While many members of the saffron party are reportedly resigning from the party saying the BJP-led state government had failed to protect the lives of the party workers, visuals of agitated workers surrounding state unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel’s car went viral.
The Karnataka Police said motorcycle-borne men had killed Praveen Nettaru while he was on his way back home after shutting his poultry shop. It was the local residents who informed the police after Nettaru was found lying in a pool of blood. The 32-year-old was rushed to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
While six police teams have been formed to track down the killers, 15 were rounded up for questioning.
The murder sparked protests in Bellare and Sullia and also saw the Vishwa Hindu Parishad calling for a bandh. Hundreds joined in the protests as Nettaru’s body was taken to his home. Some right-wing outfits alleged that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India are behind Nettaru’s murder.
