According to reports, former US President Donald Trump met Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one of the wealthiest people, to seek funding for his re-election campaign.
Reports suggested Trump met Musk in Florida over the weekend. The meeting, held in Palm Beach on Sunday, involved Trump, Musk, and a select group of affluent Republican backers, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to the New York Times anonymously.
Trump, aiming to secure substantial financial backing for his latest re-election campaign, anticipates engaging in a one-on-one conversation with Musk soon. The CEO of Tesla Inc, SpaceX, and the owner-executive chairman of X (formerly Twitter) were reported to be in attendance. As of now, neither Musk nor Trump’s campaign has responded to requests for comment from Reuters.

Facing financial setbacks from recent judgments against him, Trump seeks to rally additional major contributors for his presidential campaign, as reported by the Times.
While Musk hasn’t disclosed whether he plans to financially support Trump’s bid for the White House, his social media activity suggests opposition to incumbent President Joe Biden’s potential re-election in November 2024. Musk’s substantial net worth, estimated at approximately $200 billion by Forbes, could potentially offset the significant financial advantage that Biden and his supporters are expected to have over Trump in the upcoming election.
Musk has consistently portrayed himself as politically neutral, with a track record of evenly distributing donations between Democrats and Republicans, according to the Times. Despite his inclination towards political independence, his potential support could substantially influence the dynamics of the 2024 presidential race.
