Arambagh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack at the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, particularly denouncing the atrocities inflicted upon women in the Sandeshkhali region.
The Prime Minister asserted that the nation stands ashamed witnessing the plight of women facing brutality allegedly at the hands of TMC leaders.
PM Modi’s condemnation came in the wake of the arrest of TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates, who were accused of sexual assault and land-grabbing in Sandeshkhali. The arrest followed a 55-day pursuit after a mob attack on Enforcement Directorate officials who attempted a raid on Sheikh’s premises in connection with a ration scam.

During his address, PM Modi questioned the silence of the INDIA bloc alliance, including the Congress, on the Sandeshkhali issue, likening their response to Mahatma Gandhi’s “three monkeys.” He urged the electorate to give a resounding reply to the TMC through the ballot box.

“The entire country is watching the current situation in Bengal and the conduct of those who advocate for Maa, Mati, and Manush. People across the country are sad and enraged to see what TMC has done with the mothers and sisters of Sandeshkhali,” Modi asserted, evoking the legacy of social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy.
He lambasted the TMC government’s alleged shielding of accused leaders and its involvement in corruption, promising that justice would be served. “Modi will not spare them. Modi’s guarantee is that they will have to return the money which they looted,” PM Modi declared.
Prior to his address, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth Rs 7,200 crore, highlighting the significance of holistic development for Bengal’s progress. However, he criticized the TMC government for obstructing the implementation of central schemes and stalling development initiatives.
“Bengal’s development is being compromised because of the TMC government. Projects worth crores are pending due to non-cooperation of the state government,” PM Modi lamented, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to foster growth.
PM Modi’s visit to West Bengal continues with an upcoming public meeting at Krishnanagar in Nadia district, where he is expected to inaugurate further development projects and reinforce his commitment to the state’s prosperity.
