New Delhi: Inflatech produces about 35 fake targets in the form of a HIMARS missile defense system per month, says Vojtech Fresser, co-owner of the company, which also manufactures inflatable tanks, among other things.
According to Fresser, the Russian military has so far destroyed 140 percent more HIMARS than were delivered to Ukraine. That indicates that a large number of the targets hit are in fact blow-up HIMARS.
The Ukrainian army also deployed wooden fake HIMARS last year. The fake targets are not only a good distraction, they are also a lot cheaper than the Russian missiles that cost tens of thousands of euros and are thus wasted on the fake targets.
They were already used during the Second World War, but even today inflatable fake targets are still an efficient trick to deceive the opposing party in a war.
For example, the Czech company Inflatech supplies inflatable HIMARS missile launchers to Ukraine, which are regarded as real by the Russian army and on which the Russians therefore fire their expensive missiles.
And while the naked eye can more easily distinguish counterfeit from real, the Russian drones, which transmit the locations of the HIMARS to Russian cruise missile launchers, cannot yet do so.
