“I had run out of undergarments, so I went to Delhi to purchase them. I get them from there,” said Basant Soren.
Ranchi: Amid a political turmoil in Jharkhand, it seems the state government and especially the Soren family has another task at hand after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) Dumka MLA and Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s brother made a controversial statement over his visit to Delhi.
Back from Delhi, when asked by the media his purpose of visit, Basant Soren said, “I had run out of undergarments, so I went to Delhi to purchase them. I get them from there.” However, he admitted that there was a turmoil in the state but said the situation is now stable.
Basant’s “underwear” comment drew criticisms from the BJP. BJP’s Godda MP Nishikant Dubey tweeted a video of Basant’s press conference and wrote, “Shame does not come to those who even look at the murder of a woman, rape with their own glasses, the entire Jharkhand government is engrossed in corruption. But the definition of corruption and goonda is also decided here on the basis of castes. The bhajan troupes of the country and the burnt-out buzzing journalists are with them.”
The small clip has been widely shared on social media with people from all quarters slamming Basant’s “insensitive remarks”.
Recently in Dumka, a 16-year-old girl was killed by a stalker identified as Shahrukh Hussain. She was set afire by putting petrol on her while she was sleeping in her bedroom.
The school girl had informed her parents about harassment faced by Shahrukh in the past. On the fateful night, she had discussed the same with her father and had gone to sleep. After a few hours of sleep, she realised pain in her body and woke up. She realised that her body had been set on fire by Shahrukh.
With severe burn injuries, she was taken to the nearby hospital in the city and later to a Ranchi hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The accused was identified with the help of CCTV footage and was arrested by the local police.
