Agartala: Hours after Biplab Kumar Deb submitted his resignation as the Tripura chief minister on Saturday, state unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Manik Saha was appointed to the post after a meeting of the legislative party. Saha (69) was a frontrunner for the chief minister post.
Former CM Biplab Dev greeted Saha for his elevation for top post of the state. “Congratulations and best wishes to @DrManikSaha2 ji on being elected as the legislature party leader. I believe under PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision and leadership Tripura will prosper,” he tweeted immediately after announcement of the new CM.
Earlier, the newly appointed CM Manik Saha has welcomed Union minister Bhupendra Yadav and BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde had welcomed at the airport. “Welcomed Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @byadavbjp Ji at MBB Airport, today,” Saha had tweeted.

The Tripura CM on Saturday had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and had said to discuss issues related to development and orgasation. “Honoured to meet Home Minister of India Adarniya Shri @AmitShah ji at New Delhi today. We had in-depth deliberations regarding development works and organization.”
While the actual reason behind the move is yet to be known, Deb, who was in Delhi, has returned to Agartala and has confirmed that he has put in his papers. Meanwhile, even Cabinet ministers are clueless. Union minister Bhupendra Yadav and BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde had reached Agartala to finalise new chief minister from elected MLA.
