Turkey Terror Attack Updates: A deadly terror attack targeted the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) in Ankara on Wednesday, leaving at least five people dead and 14 injured, according to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. Two of the attackers were also killed during the incident, which has sent shockwaves through Turkey’s defense industry.
“I condemn this heinous attack,” Yerlikaya said in a statement. “Our fight will continue with determination until the last terrorist is neutralized. May God have mercy on our martyrs. I wish a speedy recovery to our injured.”
Explosion and Gunfire Rock TUSAS Headquarters
A video verified by CNN captured the moment of the explosion at TUSAS, showing a person armed with a firearm running through a parking lot after the blast. The attack on the state-run aerospace company has raised serious concerns, particularly as TUSAS plays a pivotal role in Turkey’s defense sector, producing armed drones, fighter jets, and the country’s first national combat aircraft, KAAN.

Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavas expressed his sorrow, saying he was “saddened” by the attack on TUSAS, a company at the forefront of reducing Turkey’s foreign dependence in defense technologies.
Investigation Underway
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed that a thorough investigation has been launched into the Turkey terror attack. Following the incident, Mehmet Demiroglu, general manager of TUSAS, cut short his attendance at a high-profile defense fair to return to Ankara, state news agency Anadolu reported.
Founded in 1973, TUSAS operates under Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology and has become one of the country’s largest defense companies. Its prominence in the defense sector makes it a potential target for terrorist attacks aimed at destabilizing Turkey’s security infrastructure.
NATO and International Reactions
The Turkey terror attack occurred while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in the Russian city of Kazan attending the annual BRICS Summit. He is expected to discuss the attack with Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the day.
International reactions have been swift. Mark Rutte, the secretary general of NATO, expressed solidarity with Turkey, saying, “NATO stands with Turkey.” The U S State Department also confirmed that it is closely monitoring reports of the incident.
The attack has underscored the ongoing threat of terrorism in Turkey, even as the country continues to bolster its defense capabilities. With investigations underway, Turkish authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of critical national assets like TUSAS.
