TATA IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans (GT) secured their dominance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, clinching a seven-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 12 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The bowlers’ commendable performance, complemented by a collective effort from the batting lineup, led to GT’s second victory of the 2024 season. SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first on a warm afternoon in Ahmedabad, aiming to build on their recent strong performances.
Unlike their previous match in Hyderabad, SRH had a slower start and did not capitalize on the powerplay overs. Travis Head remained aggressive, while Mayank Agarwal adopted a cautious approach before being dismissed in the fifth over. Abhishek Sharma’s aggressive play included two sixes off Rashid Khan in the final over of the powerplay. However, Head fell for 19 runs, attempting a slog against Noor Ahmad.

Despite several SRH batters showing glimpses of aggression, GT consistently took wickets at regular intervals. The highest partnership of the innings, worth 45 runs, was between Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed. However, no SRH batter managed to cross the 30-run mark, with Abhishek and Samad top-scoring with 29 each. Mohit Sharma starred for GT with figures of three for 25 in his four overs, including crucial wickets in the final over.
Chasing a target of 163, GT received a strong start from Wriddhiman Saha, who played aggressively in the powerplay overs. However, Saha was dismissed by Shahbaz after a well-compiled innings. Sai Sudharsan replaced Mohit as the Impact Player and steadied the innings alongside Shubman Gill. Gill accelerated after Saha’s departure, hitting his first six off Shahbaz with ease. Sudharsan also played confidently, contributing with crucial boundaries.

David Miller was promoted to manage the chase alongside Sudharsan. The pair rotated the strike efficiently, ensuring no unnecessary risks were taken. A pivotal moment came in the 16th over when Miller and Sudharsan attacked Markande, scoring 24 runs. Sudharsan’s departure for 45 did not deter GT’s momentum, as the required rate was already manageable.
Vijay Shankar and Miller guided GT to victory with composure, finishing the job with five balls to spare. Miller, unbeaten on 44, sealed the victory with a six over long-off.
