Enroute to Mohali, the Punjab Police were stopped by the Haryana Police after the Delhi Police registered a case of kidnapping against Punjab Police based on a complaint from Bagga’s father.

New Delhi: Amid a heightened drama between the police forces of Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested on Friday morning from his residence in Delhi by the Punjab Police on charges of making provocative statements, promoting religious enmity, and criminal intimidation.
However, enroute to Mohali, the Punjab Police were stopped by the Haryana Police after the Delhi Police registered a case of kidnapping against Punjab Police based on a complaint from Bagga’s father. The Delhi Police has now taken the custody of Bagga and is now being taken back to Delhi.
Bagga’s father said that his son was kidnapped by the Punjab Police and also told the media that the personnel who had come to take away the BJP leader allegedly hit him on his face. “This morning, 10-15 police personnel came to our home and dragged Tajinder out. When I picked up my mobile phone to record a video of the incident, police took me to another room and punched me in the face.”
Bagga’s arrest came after the leader failed to appear for the interrogation despite Punjab Police sending him notice five times. The Cyber Crime police station in Mohali had reportedly registered an FIR against Bagga and an unknown person for allegedly making provocative statements, “promoting enmity and criminal intimidation”.
Bagga has been critical of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks on Kashmiri pandits.
Meanwhile, a war of words broke out between BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party with the two trading barbs at each other. Delhi BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar Jindal said around 50 cops barged into Bagga’s home around 8:30 am and arrested him. “He couldn’t even wear his turban,” he said.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said, “Arvind Kejriwal’s brazen misuse of Punjab police to target political opponents is not unexpected. He had been raging for this. But this won’t go down well. We will fight to secure every single karyakarta of ours and ensure that Kejriwal learns how to handle power the hard way…”
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, “The entire BJP is gathered to save Bagga, a goon, who has spread hatred in Punjab. The High Court did not put a stay on the arrest, the police have a warrant, so how is the arrest a kidnap? Adityanath ji wrote treason against me, 9 FIRs in a day, 23 FIRs in total, today BJP’s police are weeping about misuse.”
