In a thrilling match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Compared to the previous high-scoring encounter in Hyderabad, this match showcased a more balanced contest between bat and ball, providing an engaging spectacle for fans. SRH successfully chased down a target of 166 runs, led by Abhishek Sharma’s explosive start. Sharma’s blistering 37 off 12 balls set the tone for the innings, reminiscent of his performance against Mumbai Indians (MI) last week. However, his departure in the third over, caught by Ravindra Jadeja off Deepak Chahar, marked the end of his entertaining cameo.
Travis Head, despite a reprieve early in the innings, played a supporting role alongside Aiden Markram, guiding SRH to 78 for one at the end of the Powerplay. Markram, anchoring the innings, notched up a well-deserved fifty off 35 balls before being dismissed for 50 while attempting a reverse sweep off Moeen Ali. Shahbaz Ahmed and Nitish Reddy then steered SRH towards victory, ensuring they reached the target with 11 balls to spare.
Earlier in the day, CSK, after being put into bat by SRH skipper Pat Cummins, posted a competitive total of 165 runs. Despite a promising start, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (35) laying a solid foundation, CSK couldn’t capitalize fully. Shivam Dube’s aggressive 45 provided impetus to the innings, but disciplined bowling by SRH in the death overs restricted CSK’s total. Every SRH pacer contributed with wickets, with Cummins, Unadkat, and Bhuvneshwar finishing with identical figures.
SRH’s strategic approach to attack the new ball paid dividends, setting the stage for an enthralling contest between bat and ball, ultimately resulting in a well-deserved victory for the Hyderabad-based franchise.
