Fadnavis cleared the air and said rebel faction’s leader Eknath Shinde will be made the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the duo met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and staked claim to power.

Mumbai: Putting all speculations to an end, former Maharshtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced name of Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister of the state. As soon as Fadnavis declared Shinde’s name, rebel MLAs started jumping and dancing on the floor of a Goa hotel where they had reached from Assam’s Guwahati on Wednesday. The MLAs, who had revolted against Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state, started singing Marathi song, shouting slogans in support of Shinde and one MLA climbed on table and started dancing overthere.

The MLAs, who first camped in Gujarat’s Surat then in Guwahati and now they are Goa, could not hide their excitement and rejoice as their leader was elevated for the top post. Though Fadnavis was top contender for the CM post but announcement of Shinde’s name made his camp cheerful.

Later, in a function at Raj Bhawan, Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis were sworn-in as the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday at the Raj Bhawan, days after he left the state along with a few MLAs and rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis for swearing in as chief minister and deputy chief minister of the state. Modi, in a tweet, said, “I would like to congratulate Shri @mieknathshinde Ji on taking oath as Maharashtra CM. A grassroots level leader, he brings with him rich political, legislative and administrative experience. I am confident that he will work towards taking Maharashtra to greater heights.”
