On Wednesday, the CBI had conducted raids at premises of an under construction mall belonging to RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in Gurugram.
New Delhi: RJD supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad was on Wednesday acquitted in a case related to poll code violation in 2015. The acquittal of the RJD chief is a kind of relief on the day when the CBI conducted raids at properties belonging to his party leaders, including his son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.
As per reports, Lalu Prasad had started an election campaign from Raghopur in favour of his younger son Tejashwi Yadav in 2015. During the poll campaign, the RJD president had claimed that the elections of state assembly is a direct fight between the backward castes and forward castes. He had also given a call to Yadavs and other backward castes to rally behind the secular alliance to defeat the BJP-led NDA.
Following the statement made by him, an FIR was lodged against Lalu Prasad for allegedly making casteist remarks. The Election Commission, in its investigation, had found it to be violative of election laws. A notice was also issued to Lalu Prasad by the Election Commission in this regard. However, the RJD leader was acquitted in the case over lack of evidence.
On Wednesday, the CBI had conducted raids at premises of an under-construction mall belonging to RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in Gurugram and properties belonging to the other party leaders in Patna in connection with the ‘land-for-jobs’ scam. The investigation agency’s action has taken place on the day when the recently formed JD (U) – RJD government has to go for floor test at the state assembly.
Several teams of CBI had reached at homes of RJD leaders early morning in which Rajya Sabha MPs Ahmad Ashfaque Karim and Dr Faiyaz Ahmad and a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) in Bihar Sunil Singh are included. The CBI has been probing allegations of irregularities during the tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav as Railway Minister in Manmohan Singh government.
